The 2023 Kyoto Prize, which honors outstanding achievements in the fields of science and the arts, was awarded at an award ceremony held in Kyoto City on October 10. Commemorative lectures were held the following day on the 11th. Professor Emeritus Ryuzo Yanagimachi of the University of Hawaii, U.S.A., in the Advanced Technology Division, who was highly evaluated for his achievements in establishing the ICSI technique, passed away in September after the award was decided, so Dr. Ogura introduced the achievements of his mentor, Dr. Yanagimachi. The Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) has selected new research proposals for FY2022 under its Fusion Oriented Research for disruptive Science and Technology (FOREST) program, and Dr. Shogo Matoba’s research proposal has been accepted. Title of the proposal: Protection of embryogenesis by the placenta and the consequences of its disruption.
