“In memory of Dr. Ryuzo Yanagimachi (Yana) (1928–2023)” has been published.
A paper co-authored by Dr. Ogura in our lab and Professor Wakayama (Univ. of Yamanashi) has been published. The paper is a memorial to Professor Emeritus Ryuzo Yanagimachi of the University of Hawaii, a mentor of Drs. Ogura and Wakayama. Professor Yanagimachi was a great researcher in fertilization, ICSI, freeze-dried sperm, and cloning, and continued his research on fertilization of various organisms after his retirement. Unfortunately, he passed away in September 2023 after the announcement of his Kyoto Prize award. J-Stage Site @RBRC_BED_en
The 2023 Kyoto Prize Commemorative Lectures were held.
The 2023 Kyoto Prize, which honors outstanding achievements in the fields of science and the arts, was awarded at an award ceremony held in Kyoto City on October 10. Commemorative lectures were held the following day on the 11th. Professor Emeritus Ryuzo Yanagimachi of the University of Hawaii, U.S.A., in the Advanced Technology Division, who was highly evaluated for his achievements in establishing the ICSI technique, passed away in September after the award was decided, so Dr. Ogura introduced the achievements of his mentor, Dr. Yanagimachi.
